Saar: Over 1.5 lakh respondents have registered their suggestions. Nearly 30 per cent want it to be Santro.

Hyundai started a naming campaign for its upcoming small car on August 16, 2018. Currently codenamed as the AH2, the car is expected to launch in the month of October this year. The customer-engaging campaign of naming a car will run for a month and will end on September 15, 2018. According to a media report, nearly 30 per cent of the respondents want Hyundai to name its new small car as ‘Santro’. The South Korean carmaker has received over 1.5 lakh suggestions in approximately two week’s time.

It is clear that several Hyundai loyalists still miss the Santro, a car that virtually established the carmaker in India. However, there are still more than two weeks to go before the naming campaign ends. Hyundai is inviting names for its AH2 hatchback via a dedicated website – www.hyundainaamkaran.in. If for some reason you don’t want to visit the website to register your suggestion, you can do that SMS of WhatsApp to any of the three numbers – 8652000377/88/99. One lucky winner will get the new small car as a price Hyundai and 100 others will be given gift vouchers worth Rs 1,000 each.

The AH2, or dare we say the new Santro, will surely reignite the fire in the entry-level car segment. In Hyundai India’s portfolio, the new model will undercut the Grand i10 and replace the ageing Eon. The ‘Modern Tall Boy’ will also bring the option of an AMT (automated manual transmission). It will be the Hyundai car to be offered with the less expensive automatic transmission setup. While we haven’t seen the car in flesh yet, Hyundai did release an official sketch of the AH2.

Hyundai Xcent Line-Up Rejigged

To start its innings, the new small car will only come with a petrol engine. At a later stage, the engine will be upgraded to meet the stringent BS-VI norms, which will kick in from April 2020 throughout the country. The AH2 is also tipped to feature the basic safety features, such as reverse parking sensors, ABS and dual airbags. Prices for the Hyundai AH2 are expected to start around the Rs 3.5 lakh mark. That means it will take the game to the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Tata Tiago.
