Mark your calendars! The date is March 3, 2020. That’s when Skoda will take unwrap the all-new Octavia RS. Accompanying the nameplate will be Skoda’s iV badge as well. That means the go-fast model will have some electrification working with or without the internal combustion engine under the bonnet. More precisely, it’ll house a plug-in hybrid, and Skoda confirmed it just over a month ago.

Now, we’ve got some more details. Sticking with the power-plant, it will comprise of a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (TSI) engine, mated to an electric motor which, all on its own, produces 114bhp. Skoda claims that total output is 242bhp/400Nm. Compare those figures to the Octavia RS245 from the previous generation, and the power figure comes out to be identical. However, the new one will offer 30Nm more torque. Negligible? Well, how about the fact that the fourth-gen Octavia RS can travel up to 55km on electric power alone! Pretty neat!

Apart from those numbers, Skoda has also released a 16-second teaser for the sportiest Octavia version. Here, check it out:

It is pretty evident what the video is about – highlighting some of the distinguishing design traits from the rest of the range. It includes black trim pieces inside and out, flat-bottomed steering wheel with the RS badging and sporty seats. Apart from those styling cues, the car will sport a black grille, dynamic front apron with black air curtains and a rear apron boasting aero flaps. To further accentuate the sporty character are black wheels with red brake callipers and a black rear diffuser.

Not much of an RS person? How about an Octavia which has the same plug-in hybrid setup and doesn’t look loutish? Alongside the Octavia RS iV, Skoda will also showcase the Octavia iV. Notice the RS is missing! That one will produce 201bhp/350Nm, and Skoda will offer it in Ambition and Style trim levels.
