Saar: All three comprise of diesel engines and they all come with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard.

It was in September this year when Mercedes-Benz took the wraps off the all-new GLE SUV. Back then, the Stuttgart-based automaker detailed just one of the several powertrains that will fall in the GLE’s package. Now though, Mercedes-Benz has revealed three more powertrain options for the all-new GLE.

All three comprise of diesel engines and they all come with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard. First up is the one that brings the ‘300 d’ tag. It is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged mill that produces 245PS of power and 500Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz claims that it can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 7.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 225kmph.

Next up is the 350 d. It brings a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbocharged motor to the party and has 272PS of power and 600Nm of torque on tap. Thanks to the extra oomph over the 300 d, the 350 d can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.9 seconds and top out at 230kmph. Lastly, we have the 400 d. It gets the same engine as the 350 d does but has an extra 58PS/100Nm on offer. That’s enough to bring the 0-100kmph sprint time down by 1.1 seconds to 5.8 seconds and gain an additional 10kmph in the top speed section.

Needless to say, all three powertrains are compliant with Euro 6d emission norms. That’s also applicable to the fourth, already known, powertrain option. If opted, the Mercedes-Benz GLE will wear the 450 4MATIC tag at the rear. Under the hood is a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 367PS/500Nm. Like the other three powertrains, it too comes with the same 9-speed automatic transmission. However, unlike the diesels, it features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that generates an additional 22PS/250Nm. With this configuration, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE can hit 100kmph from nought in 5.7 seconds and reach 250kmph at full stretch.

Early next year, the new GLE will go on sale in Europe and the USA. A few months down the line, it will find its route to India as well. Once it is here, it will lock horns with the likes of the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Land Rover Discovery and the Volvo XC90.
