Mercedes-Benz India introduced the refreshed C-Class in September last year. Back then, it was available in three variants – 220d Prime (Rs 40 lakh), 220d Progressive (Rs 44.25 lakh) and AMG Line 300 d (Rs 48.50 lakh). A bit over three months later, the company launched a sole petrol-powered version of the sedan – C 200 Progressive (Rs 43.47 lakh). And then earlier this year, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC Coupé arrived wearing a price tag of Rs 75 lakh.

With that quick history lesson out of the way, let’s get straight into the developments. First of all, the C-Class has a new variant in its line-up. Tagged as the C 200 Prime, it is priced at Rs 39.9 lakh. As you’d expect, it is propelled by the same engine-transmission combination which does duty in the C 200 Progressive. For the record, the powertrain consists of a 1.5-litre, turbo-petrol engine (181hp/280Nm), a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, which can assist the engine with an additional 13hp/160Nm.

Performance? Well, the sprint from nothing to 100kmph can be completed in 7.7 seconds, whereas the top speed figure is 239kmph. What’s the difference? The trim. In essence, the newly introduced variant has the same kit the C 220d Prime, which now wears a price tag of Rs 40.2 lakh. As for the price of the C 200 Progressive, it has now gone up to Rs 44.9 lakh – an increase of Rs 1.43 lakh. For that amount, Mercedes-Benz has added features like a Midline sound system, memory function for front seats, a wireless phone charger and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Needless to say, the same set of new features are part of C 220d Progressive variant as well. That has received a bump by Rs 2.25 lakh and is now priced at Rs 46.50 lakh.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG Line

Lastly, the C 300d AMG Line. It now costs Rs 49.50 lakh, which is Rs 1 lakh more. For that amount, Mercedes-Benz India has added AMG-spec, 18-inch black alloy wheels, a ‘Night Package’ which adorns the car with some high-gloss black inserts on the outside, a wireless phone charger, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-speaker Midline sound system with a 225-watt amplifier. And no, there are no mechanical changes to report in any of the variants.

So, there you have it. All the changes that have been introduced to the C-Class range in India. With the new Volvo S60 not expected before next year, the sedan with the three-pointed star currently competes with the recently launched BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE and the Audi A4.

Note: All prices given above are ex-showroom India.
