Saar: The first pure-electric car, that will wear the three-pointed star, will be showcased at the @Me Convention in Stockholm, Sweden.

Mercedes-Benz has announced that the first pure-electric car, which will wear the three-pointed star, will be showcased in its production guise on September 4, 2018, at the @Me Convention in Stockholm. It will launch under the umbrella of the company’s EQ brand and will be simply called the EQC. The Swedish capital city will host the third @Me Convention, which is an annual event. The event will run for three days, until September 6, 2018. Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz winter-tested the several mules of the EQC in Sweden from January to March this year.

The company is currently keeping the specs close to its chest and hence no specifics are known as of now. However, the concept EQ had a dual-motor setup, each with around 150kW of power on tap. The combined power (300kW) should be enough for the car to hit 100kmph from a standstill in less than 5 seconds and with an expected battery pack of 70kWh, it should travel at least 400kmph on a single charge. Needless to say, fast charging will be available with a support of over 100kW feed. Another aspect worth noting is that the dual-motor setup will effectively give the Mercedes-Benz EQC four-wheel-drive.

On the inside, expect Mercedes-Benz to go all-out with futuristic stuff. The dashboard will be along the same lines as the new-gen Mercedes-Benz models. That means a dual-screen arrangement, each one measuring 10.25-inch diagonally, will also make the cut. Other expected features include evolved autonomous driving technology, a plethora of safety gizmos and a very quiet cabin (duh!). In May this year, Mercedes-Benz reported that nearly 200 prototypes of the EQC were built just for the testing purposes. In its developed phases, the Mercedes-Benz EQC was put through extreme weather conditions ranging from minus 35 degrees to over 50 degrees Celsius. Apart from Sweden, the EQC was tested in various terrains across countries such as Spain, Italy, South Africa, the USA and China.

Mercedes-Benz has also said that it will be manufacturing a small EQ model after the EQC. The said model will, in all probability, carry the EQA nameplate. It will be produced at the company’s facility in Hambach, France, which will see an investment of around 500 million euros to accommodate the small EQ’s production. As far as the market launch of Mercedes-Benz EQC is concerned, it will happen sometime next year.
