Saar: The S-Class of performance cars has landed on our shores with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and 612PS/900Nm on tap.

Mercedes’ AMG portfolio has a bit of everything for all kinds of performance-car enthusiasts. For those who like just an ‘S’ to define their Mercedes-Benz and want performance figures that can put several sports cars at shame, their ride has arrived in India. Say hello to the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe 4MATIC+ and it can be yours at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom India). Needless to say, it comes to our world as a direct import and that explains its eye-watering price tag.

Powering it is a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that puts out 612PS of power and 900Nm of torque. For the record, it is the same engine that does duty in the recently launched Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+. While the power figure is identical in that car too, it has 50Nm less torque than the S-Class Coupe that has launched today. Mated to the S 63’s engine is a 9-speed AMG-spec automatic transmission, which routes that power to the road via Mercedes’ 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system.

Performance figures are just as biblical as the power figures. The Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupe 4MATIC+ sprints from a standstill to 100kmph in just 3.5 seconds, while the top speed electronically limited to 250kmph. If you are feeling brave and even more flushed with money, opt for the AMG Driver’s package and then you can hit 300kmph at full stretch. To stay connected with the current times of stringent emission norms, the AMG-specced S-Class Coupe comes with cylinder deactivation system. At low speeds, when the engine isn’t under stress, the system kicks-in to improve fuel efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz Launches Limited-Run GLE Coupe And SLC Variants

What else does the S-Class get? Yes. A lot of goodies to play with. The list includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an equally big touchscreen infotainment system, powered sports seats with memory function and heating functionality for the driver and the front passenger, multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters, multiple driving modes and 19-inch lightweight alloy wheels.

At this price, the only other options currently available in the Indian market are the Bentley Continental GT and the Porsche Panamera Turbo. The recently revealed BMW 8 Series Coupe will soon join its league.
