Now, this is how you come back in action! Not with 100, 200 or 500bhp. But with a four-digit power figure! Kudos, Mercedes-Benz India. Leveraging most of the pluses of digitalisation, the German brand announced the introduction of two new AMG models – the C 63 Coupe and the GT R. The former wears a price tag of Rs 1.33 crore, whereas the latter costs Rs 2.48 crore. Neither of those figures includes taxes, and the reason why they are so high is that both models attract the 100 per cent import duties.

These cars are about speed and performance. Yes, they have the usual set of creature comforts. But there’s no point in listing those. It makes more sense to highlight those features which help the driver enjoy the power with more control.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe

In essence, it sits above the C 43 4MATIC Coupe, which carries a price tag of Rs 76.5 lakh. Part of the price difference comes from a better equipment list. Mostly, though, it comes courtesy of the powerplant. The C 63 Coupe houses a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 469bhp/650Nm. Harnessing and feeding the oomph to the rear wheels is a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission. As per Mercedes-Benz, the setup is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4 seconds flat, and an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph.

On the features front, the C 63 Coupe gets electronically-controlled adaptive damping adjustment with three settings – Comfort, Sport and Sport+. Apart from that, the car also gets different driving modes and an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential.

Mercedes-AMG GT R

Let’s start this section with a fun fact. This is the second time Mercedes-Benz is introducing the GT R in India. The first launch happened in 2017. Fact file closed! Powering the low-slung AMG monster is the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8. However, it produces 577bhp/700Nm here. What’s more, there’s a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission which feeds the power to the rear wheels. Performance? Well, the sprint to 100kmph from a standstill takes 3.6 seconds, and flat-out it can crack 318kmph. Another noteworthy figure is 7 minutes and 10.9 seconds. That’s the official lap-record for the GT R at the fearsome Nürburgring Nordschleife.

To tame the beast, Mercedes-Benz had to inject some clever gizmos here and there. For instance, the car has active aerodynamics, which channel air to keep things stable at just about any speed. The sports car also packs AMG Ride Control, rear-wheel-steering and a tech-frenzy traction control system.

Rivals

As things stand, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe doesn’t have a direct competitor. If you are thinking about the BMW M3, that’s not on sale in India as of now. That leaves the GT R. Well, it does have the Nissan GT-R to compete with, and also the Porsche 911, BMW M8 and the Jaguar F-Type.
