For obvious reasons, carmakers around the world have been quiet for a while now. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t working! Same is Jaguar’s case in India. After launching the XE facelift in December last year, it never uttered a single word on what it plans to do ahead. But based on the latest price list, it has made some monumental changes.

First of all, the prices of the refreshed F-Type are out. As before, the sportscar arrives in India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, and because of that the least-expensive derivative costs Rs 95.12 lakh. Here’s how the model’s detailed price list looks like:

It isn’t difficult to deduce that there are two engines on offer – a 2.0-litre and a 5.0-litre V8. Get any variant with the former, and the car will have 296bhp/400Nm on tap. That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph. The latter of the two power-plants is available in two states of tunes – 444bhp/580Nm and 567bhp/700Nm (available with AWD R variants). If you pick the lesser of the two, the car can complete the 0-100kmph run in 4.6 seconds and top out at 285kmph. Those numbers, in the same order, stand at 3.7 seconds and 300kmph with the most powerful engine under the bonnet. No matter which F-Type you choose, the only transmission option available is an 8-speed automatic.

In the features department, the F-Type offers stuff such as a 10-inch Touch Pro infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, electrically-adjustable steering with memory function, auto-dimming IRVM and a powered boot lid. Under the safety umbrella, gizmos like six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor and cruise control with speed limiter are available.

The F-Type facelift comes to India sooner than expected. And that sure is a promising development, for both customers and the brand’s image itself. However, there are a couple of updates which could burst the bubble of hope. One, the latest price list doesn’t include any diesel-powered model. Does that mean Jaguar has suddenly decided to go petrol-only? It is especially surprising because the XE facelift had a BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) diesel engine. Two, the XJL is no longer part of the range as the limousine was available with only a diesel engine.

Now, does that mean Jaguar won’t bring diesel-powered models? Hopefully not. We could see them, including the XJ, making an entry later in the year. And do you know what else is in the pipeline? The I-Pace. Yes, that will be Jaguar’s answer to the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQC and the Audi e-tron.
