Udupi, a coastal town some 422km from Bengaluru in Karnataka, has been battling floods for nearly two weeks now. While the state government is taking all necessary steps to help the flood-affected people, things will take time to come back to normal. There’s been so much waterlogging on streets and car parks that several vehicles got submerged. And, we all know what water does to a car – ruins it inside out.

To help the distressed customers in Udupi, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has set up a relief task force. The carmaker, which is the second-largest in the country, has deployed a dedicated Emergency Roadside Assistance Service team in the city. Any Hyundai customer whose car has been impacted due to the floods can avail the service free of cost. And, the company is also offering a 50 per cent discount on depreciation amount of insurance claims for the flood-affected vehicles.

Here’s what Tarun Garg, who is the director of sales, marketing and service at HMIL, said about this initiative:

Taking inspiration from our global business philosophy of lifetime partner and beyond, Hyundai is always committed towards its customers’ vehicle ownership journey.  During these adverse times we have ramped up our service support to flood affected customers in Udupi. This contribution is Hyundai’s way of expressing solidarity with the people of Udupi, as they rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the recent devastating floods. Our relief teams will continue to extend support to ensure customers’ peace of mind.

Hyundai’s initiative to help out its customers in Udupi during these challenging times is commendable. For months, the global pandemic has dominated news worldwide. In India, the rising count of identified cases has been the centre of attention for most. That said, our heart goes out to the people of Udupi, who have been battling fierce floods for nearly half a month.
