About a week ago, Honda Cars India revealed details about the all-new City. The sedan officially entered production earlier this week. And now, you can book one. The process is quite straightforward, and you don’t have to step out of your house. In fact, you can do so without stepping out of your bed! All you need to do is visit Honda’s official website and pay the minimum token amount of Rs 5,000. And that’s it; you’re in the queue!

Pretty simple, isn’t it! If you don’t know how the internet works, you can get in touch with your local dealer and hand over a cheque. As for the model’s launch, that will happen next month, hopefully during the first week itself. Honda is offering the fifth-gen City with the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines as before. That said, the carmaker has retuned them for better overall performance.

Both powerplants will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. If you want a two-pedal setup, your choice boils down to just one option – the petrol-CVT. Under the performance department, the petrol engine pumps out 119bhp/145Nm (1bhp more than before). The diesel, on the other hand, produces 98bhp/200Nm (no change). Mileage? Opt for diesel-MT, and you could clock as high as 24.1kmpl. Unsurprisingly, the petrol-MT configuration isn’t as frugal as it can only return a maximum of 17.8kmpl. At 18.4kmpl, the petrol-CVT is a bit better.

Honda still hasn’t revealed the City’s list of variants or colour options. However, it has shared what sort of features the sedan packs. The list includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7.0-inch coloured MID, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, ambient lighting and tyre pressure monitoring system. And yes, there’s a telematics system on board as well, which offers connected features such as crash notification, stolen vehicle tracking and geo-fence alerts. The car also comes with Alexa remote compatibility.

Once it goes on sale, the City will compete with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and the Toyota Yaris. If Honda can price the City competitively, it can retake the throne. What do you think?
