Back in June last year, Honda Cars India initiated a voluntary recall for 65,651 units. The exercise was to identify and rectify faulty fuel pumps. Today, the carmaker has extended that activity to include an additional 77,954 units manufactured between January 2019 and September 2020. The table below clears the air:

Honda says that the fuel pumps installed in these vehicles may contain defective impellers, which could, over time, result in engine stopping or not starting at all. Just like last year, Amaze is leading the pack this time around too. And, the soon-to-be-axed City has the second-highest no. of units. As you’d expect, the entire process of rectification will come at no cost to customers. Authorised dealerships across India will contact the owners of affected vehicles and carry out the activity in a phased manner, starting from April 17, 2021.

Are you unsure when your Honda was manufactured? Well, you can refer to the invoice or the registration certificate. Alternatively, you can fetch the 17-character alpha-numeric VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or the chassis number and feed that here. Honda says that since its dealer partners are working with limited staff to practice strict safety protocols, they will not entertain walk-in customers for this recall. In other words, owners of affected cars must take a prior appointment before heading out to their respective Honda dealer.

Three out of the seven models listed above aren’t in production anymore. Those are BR-V, Civic and CR-V. The latter two bowed out of service a few months ago when Honda pulled the plug on its production plant in Greater Noida. Presently, all Honda cars are being put together at the carmaker’s Tapukara production facility in Alwar district, Rajasthan. By the end of the year, Honda could launch the mid-life update of the Amaze sedan. The carmaker is also working on a more potent model to introduce in the subcompact SUV space.
