Saar: It gets some subtle design changes on the outside and an updated infotainment system on the inside.

Honda Civic Sedan Facelift

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the mid-life update of the tenth-gen Honda Civic. It is the last of three cars that Honda Cars India promised to launch on our shores in the current fiscal year. The first two? We’ve already received the Honda Amaze and in October this year, we will get the Honda CR-V as well. The Civic will to us only by the first quarter of next year.

So, what are the changes? On the outside, the front wing is now finished in piano black instead of chrome, and that is accompanied by a restyled lower fascia, bumper and lower grille. There’s also a full-width front splitter, C-shaped chrome surround on the fog lamp housing, a chrome strip on the rear bumper and newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the layout remains identical with the only noticeable change restricted to the 7-inch infotainment system, which now features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

In the US market, the Civic facelift will get the Honda’s Sensing safety pack which includes features like lane departure warning, lane keeping assist system, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system and road departure mitigation. For India, however, we don’t expect all those features to make the final cut. There are two reasons for that; One – Honda would like to keep the costs in check and, two – the sensors and radars needed to run most of the above-mentioned gizmos require clearances from governing bodies.

While we hope that the Civic facelift comes to India as is, there will be changes in the powertrain department. Like the CR-V, the Civic will also get a diesel engine option for the first time in India. The said engine is a 1.6-litre mill with 120PS/300Nm on tap. It will be available with either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. The other engine on offer with the Civic facelift will be a 140PS, 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine that will be offered with a CVT (continuously variable transmission).

As far as pricing is concerned, expect Honda Cars India to slot the Civic in the Rs 15-20 lakh bracket. Once launched, it will take on the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis.
