Are you in the process of zeroing in on a Honda car? Well, it would be better if you could close the deal before the current month comes to a close. The Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker is considering to hike prices of all its models by up to 1.2 per cent from next month. The reason? To offset the costs incurred from two sources – the rise in input costs and the introduction of new safety features to make models comply with the upcoming safety norms. Earlier this month, Honda introduced the City sedan with additional standard safety features.

If implemented, it wouldn’t be the first time Honda hikes the prices of its model this calendar year. In February, the carmaker increased the prices by up to Rs 10,000 citing reasons of foreign exchange rates and an increase in commodity prices. The CR-V received the biggest bump and is currently priced between Rs 28.27 lakh and Rs 32.77 lakh.

Honda, like other players in the country, is also hard at work to upgrade its product portfolio to meet the Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) standards of emission norms. The said norms will come into effect from April 1, 2020. In May this year, Honda announced that it will offer diesel-powered models post the BSIV era comes to an end. Later in the same month, the company laid out its electrification plan for India wherein it will focus on hybrid technology first followed by the introduction of pure electric vehicles.

The Japanese carmaker sells a number of models in India. The range starts from Rs 4.73 lakh with the Brio hatchback and goes all the way up to Rs 43.21 lakh with the Accord Hybrid. The latter comes to India via the CBU route and is currently the only hybrid model from Honda in India.
