As promised, Jeep India has unveiled prices of the locally-assembled Wrangler. As before, the SUV is available in two main variants – Unlimited and Rubicon. In the former form, it wears a price tag of Rs 53.9 lakh (Rs 10.04 lakh less than before). Opt for the latter, and the sticker price increases to Rs 57.9 lakh (still Rs 11.04 lakh less than before).

No matter which variant you choose, under the bonnet will be a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. That pumps out 268bhp/400Nm, while an 8-speed automatic handles transmission duties. In Unlimited spec, the Wrangler packs the Selec-Trac full-time four-wheel-drive (4WD). Those looking to really test the SUV’s off-roading capability should consider the Rubicon as that comes with a more hardcore 4WD system – Rock-Trac. That offers locking front and rear differentials with electronic sway bar disconnect. The Wrangler Rubicon also packs a 240amp heavy-duty alternator, a 700amp battery, performance suspension and 17-inch Mud-Terrain tyres.

As for creature comforts, stuff like an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, auto headlamps, LED DRLs, 60:40 split rear seat and 7.0-inch display within the instrument cluster. The list of features also includes an Alpine sound system, push-button start, auto-dimming IRVM, remote start, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and leather seats. Serving the safety aspect are features such as Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Roll Mitigation, tyre pressure monitoring system, a rear-view camera and electronic stability control.

Jeep is offering the SUV in five colours – white, red, grey, granite and black. Yes, you can modify the Wrangler as well, with over 120 MOPAR-certified accessories. They can be categorised in buckets like Essential, Comfort, Sports, Leisure, Car Care etc. Jeep has also devised four accessory packs – Explorer, Night Ultra Vision, Sports and Essential.

The Wrangler becomes the second of the four models that Jeep intends to produce in India. The third and fourth slots are reserved for a seven-seat SUV and a subcompact SUV. In India, the Wrangler competes directly with the Land Rover Defender, which, unlike the Jeep, isn’t locally put together but offers more choice in terms of engines and trim levels. If you had to pick one, which would it be?
