Here’s some good news for those who have been waiting to see what Hyundai does to the Venue’s pricing and the engine line-up for the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) era. Yes, the prices have gone up. That’s a no brainer. But the sub-4 metre SUV has also ditched the 1.4-litre diesel engine. Before you let your emotions out, get this – the BS6 Venue gets a 1.5-litre diesel mill. More capacity doesn’t necessarily translate to more oomph, but in this case, it does. More on that in a bit. First, the revised price list:

As you can see, the difference is prices range from Rs 20,000 to Rs 56,000 (approximate figures). Apart from that, the main talking point is the new 1.5-litre diesel engine. The motor is exactly the same as the one that powers the new Creta and will power the upcoming Verna facelift, albeit in a lower state of tune. In the Venue, the engine produces 99bhp/240Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Over the older 1.4-litre mill, the bigger one offers an extra 10bhp/20Nm.

In the process of upgrading the Venue to meet the stricter emission norms, Hyundai has also tinkered with the list of features. For instance, all variants now come with something called Alternator Management System. Another addition to the kit is the tyre pressure monitoring system, which is standard on the SX (O) variants. The company is also providing it in the SX trim but only with the petrol-DCT derivative. The rest of the package remains pretty much unaltered.

So, there you have it. The Venue marches on to make a strong case for its maker in the subcompact SUV space. In India, it rivals the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon. Soon, Honda will try and shake things up a bit with the introduction of the WR-V facelift.
