Saar: Priced at Rs 41.5 lakh, it is essentially a two-wheel-drive derivative of the X1 xDrive20d M Sport.

BMW India has quietly introduced a fourth variant in the X1’s line-up. Dubbed as the BMW X1 sDrive20d M Sport, it is priced at Rs 41.5 lakh. It is essentially a two-wheel-drive derivative of the X1 xDrive20d M Sport, which retails at Rs 44.5 lakh. The remaining two variants, which also wear the sDrive20d badge, are available in the Expedition and xLine trims. While the former is priced at Rs 34.5 lakh, the latter will cost you Rs 38.5 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom India).

Let’s get back to the newest entrant – the sDrive20d M Sport. As mentioned above, it doesn’t have BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive system. However, the difference of Rs 3 lakh between the two M Sport variants isn’t just because of that. The latest addition to the X1’s line-up misses out on two more features – head-up display and BMW’s Navigation Plus with Touch Functionality system. The rest of the feature list remains identical to the range-topper. The list includes a multi-function sport leather steering wheel with M branding, sports seats in the front, a 205-watt, 7-speaker sound system and 18-inch M Sport alloy wheels.

Like all other variants of the X1, the new one is also powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that puts out 190PS of power and 400Nm of torque. The BMW X1 sDrive20d M Sport gets an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with launch control and paddle shifters. It can hit 100kmph from nought in 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 219kmph. Those figures are exactly the same as the four-wheel-drive M Sport variant.

BMW 320d Gran Turismo Sport Launched At Rs 46.6 Lakh

In India, the BMW X1 competes with the Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and the Mini Countryman. Only three out of the five models listed above have a petrol engine on offer – Q3, GLA and the Countryman. So, if you are after a petrol-powered premium compact SUV, the BMW X1 is not going to make your list. At least for now.
