BMW India has introduced a new, petrol-powered derivative of the 5 Series sedan. Dubbed as the 530i M Sport, it is priced at Rs 59.2 lakh (ex-showroom India). Compared to the Sport Line trim, the M Sport is Rs 5.4 lakh dearer. And just like all other 5 Series variants, the newly introduced trim will also be put together at BMW India’s Chennai plant. Obviously, the only exception is the M5, which arrives in India via the CBU (completely built unit) route.

As the name suggests, the BMW 530i M Sport is more aggressively styled inside and out. The exterior is draped with high-gloss black elements such as the Kidney Grille, B-pillar, air breather at the front and the window guide rail. The tailpipe is finished in high-gloss chrome, while BMW’s M Aerodynamic package finishes the front apron, side skirts and rear apron with diffuser insert in dark shadow metallic. Obviously, there are a number of M badges all over and the car rides on 18-inch M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres.

As far as equipment is concerned, the BMW 530i M Sport gets LED-powered headlamps, taillamps, DRLs, fog lights and turn indicators, auto wipers and headlamps, powered ORVMs with functions like memory, heating and anti-dazzle, BMW Display Key and heat protection glazing. Not satisfied? Okay then! The list of features also includes an electric sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable sports seats with memory function, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, gesture control system, remote control parking, cruise control, wireless mobile charging and a 16-speaker, 600W Harman Kardon sound system.

Needless to say, the list of safety gizmos is also right up there with the best in the segment. The sedan gets a bunch of airbags, electric parking brake with auto hold function, crash sensor, parking assistant, attentiveness assistant and Active Park Distance Control at the rear.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that puts out 252PS/350Nm. It comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission which routes the power to the rear wheels. The setup is good enough for a 0-100kmph time of just 6.2 seconds and a fuel efficiency of 15.01kmpl. Obviously, both can’t be achieved on the same run!

The BMW 530i M Sport is available in four colours – Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mediterranean Blue and Bluestone Metallic. BMW has also thrown in the Secure Advance Package which not only includes 24×7 roadside assistance but also gets engine secure and key lost assistance. In India, the BMW 5 Series competes with the Jaguar XF, Audi A6, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Volvo S90.
