Tata Motors unveiled the Punch in full earlier this month. The auto major also opened bookings for the car in question, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 21,000. However, we now have a price list that starts at Rs 5.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.09 lakh. As expected, the price list is introductory in nature and will continue to be so until December 31, 2021. The Punch has the same skeleton, albeit a bit trimmed down, as the Altroz. In Tata’s words, the newcomer is built on the ALFA architecture. That alone translates to solid safety credentials. In fact, it did very well in the Global NCAP Crash Test study. Here, apprise yourself with the price list:

The Punch takes a different route for its trim tree, one that’s unlike any Tata car. And as you can see, there’s just one engine option – the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol unit that also does duty in the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz. The powerplant produces 84bhp/113Nm, all of which goes to the front wheels only. As standard, the car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. The only other alternative is a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Mileage? The petrol-MT combo can return up to 18.97kmpl, whereas the petrol-AMT setup is slightly less frugal at 18.82kmpl.

On the features front, the Punch has a lot to offer. As standard, it packs stuff like Brake Sway Control, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, tilt steering adjust, front power windows and ISOFIX. Climb up the trim tree, and the list expands with features such as push-button start/stop, auto-folding ORVMs, auto headlamps and wipers, and automatic climate control.

Tata is also offering feature packages with all variants. For instance, there’s a Rhythm Pack for the Pure variant. Paying for that will add three additional creature comforts – a 3.5-inch infotainment system, a 4-speaker sound system and steering audio controls. The Rhythm Pack for Adventure derivatives adds features like two tweeters, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera. Similarly, there’s a Dazzle Pack for Accomplished variants. That offers extra stuff like 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps and LED DRLs. Lastly, the fully-loaded Creative trim can be clubbed with the IRA pack. No points for guessing; it ropes in Tata’s IRA connected-car tech.

There are up to five monotone colours and seven dual-tone finishes available. And as for the standard warranty, that’s 2 years/75,000km.

Tata’s newest offering is reasonably priced and looks quirky, to say the least. Besides rivalling the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100, the Punch also takes a swing at larger models like the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. So, the question is – would you land a Punch?
