Land Rover India started 2020 on a high. It introduced the all-new Evoque in January, followed by the Discovery Sport facelift in February. Soon afterwards, it opened bookings for the new Defender and also unveiled the price list. But, before it got the chance to launch it, the infamous COVID-19 outbreak happened, and everything went for a toss. With things slowly getting back on track, the company has now officially introduced the all-new Defender. Here, check out the updated price list:

On the positive front, we’ve got both forms of the new Defender – the three-door 90 and the five-door 110. However, Land Rover hasn’t included any diesel-fed variants. Before you go in the shoulder-sagging mode, do acquaint yourself with the petrol-fed powertrain. It includes a 2.0-litre, turbocharged mill with 296bhp/400Nm, 8-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. No matter which variant you choose, you’ll get the engine and gearbox along with AWD.

On the performance front, the 90-marked variants can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 8 seconds whereas those denoted by ‘110’ will take a tenth of a second longer. The top speed for all derivatives is 191kmph.

As standard, the Defender comes with a five-seater configuration. All ‘90’ series versions get the option of a six-seat arrangement in the form of a front jump seat. That layout, however, comes as standard with the First Edition. If you want the Defender in a five-door version, you’ll get the option of a six- and even a seven-seat (five + two in the third row) layout in all variants. Only the 110 First Edition doesn’t have the option of a front jump seat.

Predictably, the list of features depends on what trim you choose. You can have the Defender with stuff like Matrix LED headlights, powered and heated ORVMs with memory function, 20-inch alloy wheels, 14-way electrically-adjustable front seats, 3D surround camera and ClearSight IRVM. The SUV also comes with a 10.0-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system, Meridian sound system, a digital instrument cluster, electronic air suspension and a sliding panoramic roof.

The new-gen Defender is a much-more rounded product that any of its predecessors. That’s why, based on its price list and its ability to tackle the rough stuff, the Defender competes with everything from the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to the BMW X5.
