Porsche’s first-ever pure-electric vehicle – the Taycan – has finally got a playmate. And it’s called the Taycan Cross Turismo. Both models come from the same family tree but serve different purposes. The Taycan has a svelte silhouette and qualifies as a sports saloon, whereas the Cross Turismo plays the practicality card better. So, on a track, the former would be the better choice. But, if you want things and people to lug around, you’d pick the latter.

The Taycan Cross Turismo has the same basic DNA as the Taycan saloon. That means the same 800-volt architecture, all-wheel-drive and adaptive air suspension. For rear-seat passengers, the newcomer offers 36mm more headroom. That comes courtesy of an estate-like design, which keeps the roofline relatively straighter than the Taycan sedan. Taking practicality a notch higher is the voluminous luggage space. Porsche claims that the Taycan Cross Turismo can gulp up to 1,200 litres of stuff. If you pay for the optional off-road package, the ground clearance goes up by 30mm. Bikers would happily opt for the rear carrier, which can carry up to three bicycles.

Porsche has devised four variants of the Taycan Cross Turismo. The range starts with the Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, which offers 375bhp/500Nm (469bhp overboost power for launch control). That’s enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 220kmph. As for the travel range, that’ll be between 389km and 456km. Next-in-line is the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo with 483bhp/650Nm (563bhp overboost power for launch control). That can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds and reach 240kmph at full stretch. The range could be between 388km and 452km.

The second-to-top variant is the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, which packs 617bhp/850Nm (671bhp overboost power for launch control). Courtesy of the extra oomph, it can complete the standard sprint in 3.3 seconds and top out at 250kmph. The range: between 395km and 452km. Choose the range-topping Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo, and you’d have 617bhp/1,050Nm (751bhp overboost power for launch control) on tap. Under ideal conditions, the EV can hit 100kmph from nothing in 2.9 seconds and reach 250kmph without breaking a sweat. As for the range, that’ll be between 388km and 419km.

All four variants come with a dual-motor setup and the same 93.4kWh battery pack. And, those range figures are as per WLTP standards. Market launch for the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will happen sometime during summer.
