Saar: The four-door coupé gets a BS VI-compliant 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with 245PS/500Nm under the bonnet and the tag 300 d at the rear.

Mercedes-Benz India continues with its product offensive strategy with the introduction of the third-gen CLS. The four-door coupé is available in just one variant, 300 d, which is priced at Rs 84.70 lakh (ex-showroom India). The CLS, which made its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show last year, is the twelfth product launch by Mercedes-Benz in India in the current calendar year.

In international markets, the third-gen Mercedes-Benz CLS is available with a range of mild-hybrid powertrains. In India, however, it comes with just one engine option – a turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel that puts out 245PS and 500Nm of torque. It is the same BS VI-compliant engine that debuted in India with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class facelift earlier this year, albeit in a higher state of tune. The power-plant comes mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The setup is enough for the car to hit 100kmph from a standstill in 6.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 250kmph.

As far as features are concerned, the third-gen Mercedes-Benz CLS comes with Multibeam LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels and an electric sunroof. Other features include a high-res 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a digital instrument cluster with three display styles – Classic, Sporty and Progressive and a new generation of telematics system which includes Audio 20 with NTG 5.5.

As standard, the new CLS also comes with a 64-colour ambient lighting, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Air Body Control air suspension and a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system. For the exterior, Mercedes-Benz is offering a range of colour options including Graphite Grey, Ruby Black and Designo Selenite Grey Magno.

The new CLS is underpinned by the same platform as the standard Mercedes-Benz E-Class (not the LWB iteration). That has helped the four-door coupé to grown in length, width, height and wheelbase. And don’t worry, even though the engine powering the third-gen Mercedes-Benz CLS is BS VI-compliant, it is tuned to run on BS IV-grade of fuel as well. As far as rivals go, the CLS doesn’t have any in India. At least, not at the moment.
