Tata Motors has introduced two new AMT (automated manual transmission) variants of its Tigor sedan. Tagged as XMA and XZA+, they are priced at Rs 6.40 lakh and Rs 7.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively. Compared to their corresponding manual counterparts, the AMT-equipped variants demand a premium of Rs 45,000. Prior to this, the AMT unit was available in the XZA trim only. That, however, has now been axed.

As expected, both newly introduced variants come with the same set of features as their corresponding manual derivatives. The XMA offers features such as 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, all four power windows, speed-sensing auto door lock, ConnectNext infotainment system mated to a 4-speaker sound system and manual central locking with remote flip key.

The XZA+ variant, which costs Rs 85,000 more than XMA, gets additional features like 15-inch, diamond-cut, dual-tone alloy wheels a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice command, an 8-speaker sound system, automatic climate control, titanium colour faux leather seats with white contrast stitching, rear defogger and a rear-view camera.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine, which comes mated to a 5-speed AMT, is good for 85PS/114Nm. The 3-cylinder mill will also be upgraded to meet the stricter Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) levels of emission norms. The 1.05-litre diesel engine, on the other hand, will not be met with the same fate and is destined to go out of Tata’s passenger vehicle portfolio from April 1, 2020.

Tata Motors is working on a more thorough facelift for the Tigor than what the sedan received in October last year. Expected to launch later this year, the refreshed Tigor will also debut the BSVI-compliant powertrain. In India, the Tata Tigor competes with the Ford Aspire, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and the Volkswagen Ameo.
