Tata Motors has expanded the portfolio of Tiago hatchback by launching it in a new trim – XZ+. It is available in four different configurations – petrol, petrol (dual-tone), diesel and diesel (dual-tone). The prices, in the same order, are Rs 5.57 lakh, Rs 5.64 lakh, Rs 6.31 lakh and Rs 6.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The single-tone, petrol and diesel versions of the XZ+ are demanding a premium of around Rs 36,000. Let’s see what it offers for the extra money.

With it, the Tiago XZ+ brings two new colours for the exterior – Canyon Orange and Ocean Blue. If you opt for the dual-tone paint scheme, the roof and the spoiler will feature a glossy black finish. Other additions on the design front include 15-inch, dual-tone alloy wheels (with petrol only), a chrome accent on the boot lid and body-side moulding.

Inside the cabin, the Tata Tiago XZ+ features a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, voice command recognition and incoming SMS notifications & readouts. The feature list also includes a fully automatic climate control with digital controls, projector headlamps with smoked black bezel and electrically folding OVRMs with welcome function.

Mechanically, there is nothing new. The Tata Tiago XZ+ is available with either a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 85PS/114Nm, and a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel mill, which puts out 70PS/140Nm. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. There is no AMT on offer. At least, not at the moment!

Earlier this year, Tata Motors introduced the Tiago NRG and the Tiago JTP. While the former is a jacked-up version of the standard Tiago and features body cladding all around, the latter is a go-fast version of the hatchback, housing a 114PS/150Nm 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. In India, the Tata Tiago competes with the likes of the Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the Renault Kwid.
