Tata Motors shocked the Indian automobile industry last year after out-bidding its direct peers and bagging the largest single order to supply EVs (electric vehicles) to a single recipient, which was the state-run energy company EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd.). Now, the homegrown automaker has bagged yet another order to supply Tigor EVs to Capgemini – a multinational organisation which provides technology services, consulting and digital transformation solutions.

Capgemini has a number of campuses across India. Tata Motors will supply EVs to three of those campuses, one each in Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. To ensure smooth induction of Tigor EVs into Capgemini’s mobility ecosystem in all of its three campuses, Tata Motors has collaborated with Karthik Travels. The first batch of Tigor EVs was handed over to Capgemini at its Bengaluru campus. The automaker hasn’t mentioned an exact number of electric Tigors heading to Capgemini.

Here’s what Shailesh Chandra, who is the president of electric mobility business and corporate strategy at Tata Motors Ltd., said in an official release:

We are delighted to partner with Capgemini on their thoughtful initiative of promoting zero-emission vehicles for the employee mobility needs. Tigor EV, recently awarded as the ‘Electric Car of the Year’ by Assocham India’, will join Capgemini’s existing fleet of cars. Tata Motors will continue to work towards bringing aspirational e-mobility solutions for the customers, leading the drive towards faster adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

Ever since it struck a deal with EESL for supplying EVs, Tata Motors has been busy spreading its wings of electric mobility in other directions as well. In May last year, the automaker inked a memorandum of understanding with the government of Maharashtra to deploy a total of 1,000 EVs and set up charging points across the state. In July 2018, the company bagged an order to supply Tigor EVs to Cognizant. A batch of 10 units was handed over to the multinational corporation at its Hyderabad campus.

A car nutter by heart. A hopeless engineer by education. Gunning for one goal - simplify cars.
