At this year’s Auto Expo, Skoda showcased a range of products. Amongst them were the Octavia RS 245 and the Superb facelift. While it revealed the sticker price during the biennial automotive event, Skoda started accepting bookings for the former only on March 1, 2020. Well, the company has stopped entertaining reservations for the go-fast car already. Why? That’s because only 200 units were available and they all have found takers.

As for the latter, the Superb facelift, customers can now book one online with the minimum token amount set at Rs 50,000. The refreshed sedan, which broke cover globally in May last year, is coming to India in two variants – Sportline and Laurin & Klement (L&K). Those opting for Sportline will have to settle for one of three colour options – Moon White, Race Blue and Steel Grey. And those who prefer a more luxurious package instead of sporty one will five paint options – Lava Blue, Magic Black, Magnetic Brown, Business Grey and Moon White.

The two derivatives also differ in terms of appearance. On the outside, the Sportline has a bunch of blacked-out trim pieces, which are shiny chrome in the L&K. Indoors, Sportline’s all-back theme accentuates the sporty character, whereas the dual-tone beige-and-black finish is more on the luxurious side. Apart from those differences, Skoda will also offer a different set of features with both of the variants. Some of the confirmed creature comforts include a Virtual Cockpit (digital instrument cluster), eight airbags, powered seats, LED headlamps, three-zone climate control and a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

What both the Sportline and the L&K iterations will share is the powertrain. Skoda will offer the Superb facelift with just one engine-transmission combination – a 2.0-litre TSI producing 188bhp/320Nm, coupled to a 7-speed DSG. The setup is enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 238kmph. Yes, that’s the same powertrain that also does duty in the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, and will also find space in the Skoda Kodiaq BS6 (Bharat Stage 6). If still haven’t guessed it, both Skoda and Volkswagen are going petrol-only.

With the Volkswagen Passat and the Honda Accord Hybrid gone, the Superb’s sole competitor will be the Toyota Camry Hybrid. In terms of pricing, the Czech will undercut the Japanese.
