Saar: Because of the lacklustre performance of the Brio badge in India, the second-gen model is unlikely to land here.

Honda has taken the wraps off the all-new Brio hatchback at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2018. Into its second generation, the Honda Brio looks like a shrunken version of the new Honda Mobilio, which is also on sale in Indonesia, from the front. From the back, certain design cues such as the taillamp enclosures remind us of the Ford Figo. In India, both Mobilio and Brio badges never really troubled their competitors in their respective segments. Hence, expect Honda Cars India to skip bringing the new Brio on our shores as it did with the Mobilio last year.

With the new Brio, Honda has tried to address a few of the shortcomings that plagued the first-gen model. The new model measures 3,815mm in length, 1,680mm in width and 1,485mm in height. Compared to its Brio currently on offer in India, it is 205mm longer and 15mm shorter, while having the same width. The wheelbase has also grown by 60mm and now measures 2,405mm. It is safe to say that the new Brio will be a lot roomier than the model we have on sale in India.

In Indonesia, the new Honda Brio will be sold in a total of five variants – S, E, E CVT, RS and RS CVT. All variants are powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTECH petrol engine that puts out 90PS/110Nm. The non-CVT variants come with a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine-transmission combinations are exactly the same as the petrol-powered Honda Amaze in India.

In terms of features, the second-gen Honda Brio gets automatic climate control, dual airbags, keyless entry, 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system (RS only), rear parking camera, speed-sensing auto door locking system and 15-inch alloy wheels (RS only). The RS variants come with more sporty styling on the outside with side skirts, front grille finished in black, dual-tone colour options for the exterior and a different rear bumper.

Honda Amaze No Longer Available At Introductory Prices

All in all, the second-gen Honda Brio is a more complete and yet funky package than before. As mentioned above, it is unlikely to make it to our shores. What do you make of Honda Cars India skipping the new Brio for us? Do let us know in the comments below.
