In January this year, Renault India introduced the BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) range for the Kwid. Now, the company has made changes to the list of variants by adding two and scrapping four. The new ones wear the RXL badge with the 1.0-litre engine under the bonnet. The one with the manual transmission costs Rs 4.16 lakh, whereas the variant with the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) wears a price tag of Rs 4.48 lakh. Here’s how the complete price list looks like:

The table also shows that along with shortening the Kwid’s range overall, Renault has also increased the prices. Depending on the variant, you’d be paying up to Rs 6,000 more than before. The marginal hike shouldn’t hurt the Kwid much as it still is one of the best all-rounders in the segment. In fact, Renault has also confirmed that since launch, more than 3.5 lakh units have found takers in India. The Kwid, which comprises of 98 per cent locally-procured parts, is the company’s bestseller in India. And, of course, Renault also exports the Kwid to other markets. Till date, more than 45,300 units have left Indian shores.

Coming back to the newly introduced variants, they both get the same level of equipment as the RXL 0.8L variant. The list includes full wheel covers, an accessory socket in the front, power steering, remote keyless entry, single-din audio system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX support and front power windows. They do miss out on gizmos such as rear power windows, fast USB charger, rear-view camera, an infotainment system and traffic assistance mode. On the performance front, both get the same engine which produces 67bhp/91Nm and comes mated to a 5-speed transmission.

In India, the Kwid is a direct competitor to the Datsun Redi-Go and a couple of Maruti Suzuki models – Alto and the S-Presso. Would you pick the Renault over its rivals?
