The Taycan is Porsche’s first-ever pure-electric car. And depending on the market, it is available in two body styles and multiple variants. Surprisingly, India has received a total of seven derivatives, covering both saloon and Cross Turismo forms. As for the prices, they start at Rs 1.5 crore.

Taycan (Sports Saloon)

If you want the EV in a four-door sedan form, there are four variants to choose from – Taycan, Taycan 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. Depending on the iteration you choose, the pure-electric car comes with one or two electric motors. So naturally, they all differ in performance. As standard, all Taycan variants come with a 79.2 kWh Performance Battery (PB). That can be plugged into a 225kW DC charger. However, you can pay more to get the larger 93.4 kWh stack, which Porsche calls Performance Battery Plus (PBP) in the mix. That can take feeds of up to 270kW. With that in place, all Taycan variants can gain 100km of range in about 5 minutes. The wait from 5 to per cent charge is about 22.5 minutes.

The entry-level variant, the Taycan, comes with a single, rear-mounted electric motor. Based on which battery you have installed and whether or not you’ve engaged the Launch Control, the car puts out up to 469bhp and 357Nm of torque. The sprint from nothing to 100kmph takes 5.4 seconds, and the top speed is 230kmph. As per Porsche, the Taycan can travel up to 484km on a single charge.

Next is the Taycan 4S. It has two electric motors, one for each axle. With PB in place, the car offers up to 523bhp/640Nm. Get the PBP into the equation, and the oomph goes up to 563hp/650Nm. Porsche claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of four seconds flat and a top speed of 250kmph. As far as the range is concerned, that’s 407km with PB and 463km with PBP.

Slotting about the Taycan 4S are the Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Turbo S. Of course, there’s no turbocharger anywhere. That tag comes in only to keep that Porsche “feel” alive. Okay, so both “Turbo” versions have two electric motors, but offer more oomph. By default, there’s 617bhp on tap. Engaging the launch control, however, makes a lot of difference. With that active, the Turbo has 671hp/850Nm and the Turbo S put out 751hp/1,050Nm.

The sprint from nothing to 100kmph takes 3.2 seconds in the Taycan Turbo and 2.8 seconds in the Taycan Turbo S. That said, both versions will top out at 260kmph. As for the range, that varies between 412km and 450km, depending on which Turbo variant you choose.

Taycan Cross Turismo

The Taycan Cross Turismo is a more practical alternative to its saloon sibling. Not only does it provide more room for living things, but there’s more space for non-living things as well. The basic DNA, however, remains the same. So, there’s the 800-volt architecture, all-wheel-drive and same charging capabilities.

In India, the Taycan Cross Turismo lands in three variants – 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. All three have a dual electric motor setup and come with PBP as standard. The 4S offers up to 563bhp, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 240kmph. The Turbo, on the other hand, puts out up to 671bhp. With that on tap, the Cross Turismo can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 3.3 seconds and top out at 250kmph.

The Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo has the same top speed – 250kmph. But, it is quicker getting there. With up to 751bhp on tap, it can complete the standard sprint in 2.9 seconds. Porsche says that depending on which variant you choose, the range will vary between 388km and 452km.

So, there you have it. A lot of options for a pure-electric Porsche. Which one would you pick?
