Saar: Ten days ago, it achieved the same feat in its home country.

Introduced in 2010, the Nissan Leaf has been nothing short of a sensation in the world of e-mobility. With over 3.2 lakh units sold globally, it is by far and away the bestselling EV (electric vehicle) ever. During the last week of May 2018, the Nissan Leaf achieved a sales milestone of 1 lakh units in its home country, Japan. Now though, it has managed to achieve the same feat in Europe.

The 100,000th Leaf was sold to a customer from Madrid, Spain. Nissan says that in Europe one new Leaf is sold in every 10 minutes. That’s an astonishing figure. In just eight months, Nissan has sold over 37,000 units of the new-gen Leaf in the said continent.

According to Nissan, Leaf customers have now driven over 2 billion kilometres ever since the model went on sale in Europe. The zero-emission powerplant has helped save over 3 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions which would have otherwise come from a conventional internal combustion engine. What’s more, the Nissan Leaf scores an overall satisfaction score of 92 per cent, which is more than any other Nissan model on sale.

The current-gen Nissan Leaf made its world premiere in September last year. With it, came a host of futuristic technologies such as ProPILOT and ProPILOT Park. The most revolutionary of the lot was the e-Pedal, which allows drivers to start, speed-up, decelerate and come to a complete halt by simply increasing or decreasing the pressure applied to the pedal. In December, Nissan started the assembly at its plant in Tennessee, USA. Soon afterwards, Nissan began the assembly process of the Leaf in Sunderland, England.

While celebrating the 1 lakh unit sales milestone in Japan a few days ago, Nissan unveiled a topless version of the Leaf to commemorate the occasion. However, bad news came in soon afterwards when Nissan announced that it has no plans to put the drop-top version of the Leaf in production.
