Saar: The refreshed Mini Cooper comes with a host of changes on the outside and inside the cabin.

British car marque Mini has launched the refreshed Cooper model series in India. Globally, the 2018 model of the Mini Cooper was unveiled in January this year and it has made its entry to India in four-and-a-half months later. Prices start at Rs 29.70 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 37.10 lakh (both prices ex-showroom India). Here’s the variant-wise price-list:

Mini Cooper Facelift: Price List (ex-showroom India)

MINI Cooper 3-Door DRs 29.7 Lakh

The Mini Cooper Convertible is priced just Rs 30,000 shy of the Mini Countryman Cooper SD, which is lesser of the two variants in which the recently launched Mini Countryman is available in. As far as the variant nomenclature is concerned, the ‘D’ variants are powered by a diesel engine whereas the ‘S’ variants have a petrol-fed mill under the bonnet.

The petrol-powered variants have the same 192PS/2380Nm  2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged motor as the pre-facelift models. However, it now comes mated to a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle-shifters. For the diesel-fed variants, Mini has continued with 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged mill as was. It produces 116PS of power and 270Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both engine-transmission combinations get multi-drive modes – Standard, Green, and Sport.

In terms of looks, the LED taillamps are designed to look like half a Union Jack flag, the new MINI logo on the bonnet and tailgate, new headlamps with circular ring LED DRLs and turn indicators. Additionally, MINI is now offering three new paint finishes for the exterior. They are – Emerald Grey Metallic, Starlit Blue Metallic, and Solaris Orange Metallic. Including those three, the total number of options for the body colour goes up to 14. For petrol-powered models, MINI is optionally offering a piano-black finish that replaces the chrome garnishing around the headlamps, taillamps and radiator grille.

BMW India To Focus More On Smaller Towns

Inside the cabin, there’s a new multi-function steering wheel, which is accompanied by sports seats, a new 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system (Mini radio visual boost available as an optional extra) and brown leather upholstery. Opt for the ‘Mini Yours Interior Style Piano Black Illuminated’ pack and you get a backlit interior surface on the front passenger side of the dashboard which looks like a full Union Jack flag. The other optional ‘Mini Excitement Pack’ gets you LED interiors and ambient lighting with a choice of 12 colours.

If you have noticed, there’s a lot of optional this and that going on. That’s how MINI plays its game. The list of other optional extras includes a sunroof, a bigger 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, onboard navigation, wireless mobile charger, support from Apple CarPlay and a 12-speaker, 360W, 8-channel Harman Karon sound system. All models come with dual airbags, brake assist, stability control, crash sensor, ABS, cornering brake control and run-flat tyres as standard.

As far as rivals are concerned, the refreshed Mini Cooper takes on the Volvo V40, which is due for a generation change, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class, which will be replaced by an all-new model later this year.
