Saar: The same was revealed during the annual shareholders meeting earlier this week.

Mercedes-Benz is one of the most product-offensive brands in the automotive world. And the German carmaker will keep on rolling out more new products at the same pace. Dieter Zetsche, who is the chairman of the board of Daimler AG and the head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division, shed some light on the company’s near-future plans. He said, “Daimler will invest above all in new products, with more than a dozen new car models to be launched by 2018. In the first three months of this year, among others, the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the new A-Class and the Mercedes-AMG GT four-door have already been presented.” That means there are at least nine more to come.

This is surely an exciting piece of news. While we can’t name all the models which will fall in this claim, we can surely play the guessing game. The GLS, for instance, could receive a mid-life update and the internet is also washed with spy pics of the GLB being tested. No points for guessing, it will sit between the GLA (also due for a generation change) and GLC models. Other new launches could include variant additions to the existing lineup. A sedan based on the A-Class is also on the cards. On the EV (electric vehicle) front, we could finally see the EQ C and the EQ A make their official debuts.

With the world of mobility rapidly moving towards electrified transportation, Mercedes-Benz also has plans to expand its portfolio with more electric vehicles. During the meet, Zetsche added that the company is working hard to offer at least one electrified version of cars in each segment by 2022. That’s in less than five years from now!

As far as targets are concerned, Daimler is hoping to get 8 – 10 per cent return on sales from Mercedes-Benz cars. For the uninitiated, Daimler AG also manufactures Vans under the Mercedes-Benz umbrella, while producing trucks and buses with the Daimler name.
