Last week, Mercedes-Benz India announced that it would display at least 13 models at the Auto Expo 2020. One of them will be the V-Class Marco Polo. And like for the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé, the carmaker will reveal the price of the MPV. Once launched, it will become the fourth variant of the V-Class to go on sale in India.

Mercedes-Benz will, in all probability, launch the Marco Polo in Sport trim. For the record, that’s the entry-level version of the V-Class Marco Polo family in markets like the UK. Like the other variants in India, the V-Class Marco Polo will arrive in the long-wheelbase form. Expect Mercedes-Benz to introduce the new derivative in a four-seat layout only. As far as the list of features goes, it will pack an electric pop-up roof, a two-seater bed, external connections for power and water, a split tailgate and a kitchenette with a refrigerator box, gas hob with two burners and a sink.

Powering the V-Class Marco Polo will be the same 2.15-litre, BS6-compliant turbo-diesel engine which does duty in the MPV’s other variants on sale in India. The power-plant produces 161bhp/380Nm, all of which gets routed to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission. If someone is in a hurry, that powertrain can help the V-Class hit 100kmph from nothing in 11.1 seconds and top out at 195kmph.

Other features that could be part of the kit include LED-powered headlamps, a fold-out table, roller blinds, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MBUX, ambient lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels. On the safety front, the MPV will pack an electric parking brake, hill start assist, automatic headlamp assist, cruise control, attention assist and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.

As things stand, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class has no rivals in India. That, however, will change later this year as Toyota India has lined-up the Vellfire. The MPV, which will arrive via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, will have one ace up its sleeve – a hybrid powertrain.
