Saar: The Kicks will kick-start Nissan’s product offensive strategy in India.

Only a few days ago Nissan announced how it plans to invest in India to expand its footprint. Apart from doubling its retail and service outlets in 2-3 years from now, the company also plans to adhere to its product offensive strategy. And, it will be led by the Nissan Kicks. Well, the Japanese carmaker did not waste much time in releasing a couple of sketches as teasers for the upcoming compact SUV. The Micra-maker also took the pain to release a short video. Check it out:

Intriguing isn’t it?! Well, it needs to be. Nissan in India hasn’t had the best of innings until now. However, the company isn’t done trying to carve out space for itself in the country. Nissan wants to establish itself as a premium mass-market carmaker, while its subsidiary Datsun will be aligned to cater specifically to the sub-Rs 10 lakh bracket.

Anyway, back to the Kicks. The marque is already present in a number of international markets. For India, however, Nissan will do something different with it. Here’s how the carmaker defines the SUV:

“The India version of the Kicks is bigger, more evolved, more intelligent and caters to the brand’s core audience, who are adventurous, look for bold and intelligent choices in life.”

Wow! The only real takeaway is that the India-spec Kicks will be bigger than the one sold in, say, Europe. Another noteworthy aspect that Nissan has mentioned about the Kicks is that it will be the most powerful SUV. To keep the costs in check, it will, in all probability, will share the underpinnings with the Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano. The common stuff is also likely to include the powertrain options but in beefed-up tunes. The Kicks will be placed above the Terrano and hence will be more feature-rich.

The Nissan Kicks is expected to launch during the current fiscal year. It will take the game to the likes of the Jeep Compass, fully-loaded variants of the Hyundai Creta and Tata’s upcoming SUV, the Harrier.
