Agreed, that wasn’t the most sophisticated title to a story. But, you’d feel a whole lot better when you learn that the word “Extinction” now has a new meaning. What you see here is what Bengaluru-based Pravaig Dynamics has created – an EV that’s called the Extinction. No, it does not levitate, nor does it have any futuristic laser guns like the ones seen in Hollywood movies. What it does have is a serious personality. The company took nine years to get it all together and is ready to launch it next year. Don’t get floored by the two-door format. The launch version will have two extra doors for a more practical package.

Now, we have limited details at the moment. But, they all point towards promising foundations of the zero-emissions vehicle. It measures over 4.8 metres in length, 1.9 metres in width and just about 1.45 metres in height. The wheelbase stretches a bit over 3 metres, which should translate to a commodious cabin for both living and non-living things. Pravaig Dynamics hasn’t shown how the Extinction looks like indoors. But, it has shared that the list of features will include HEPA air filters, eight airbags, a 5-star safety rating, a Devialet audio system with smartphone compatibility, regenerative braking and autonomous driving tech.

Time for the numbers game. The EV packs a 96 kWh battery, which is also swappable. Interesting! That’s enough for a theoretical range of 504km, considerably more than any other EV on sale in India. Propulsion comes courtesy of a single electric motor which produces 201bhp but an astonishing 2,400Nm of torque. As per the carmaker, the Extinction can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 5.4 seconds and top out 196kmph. Although Pravaig Dynamics hasn’t revealed the charging tech, it does mention that the onboard battery can replenish itself to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.

You have to say that all those facts and figures paint an excellent outline. As you’d expect, the Extinction isn’t for the masses. It is, in fact, for those who put sustainable means of personal transport above everything else. And, going by the performance numbers, have fun along the way. The Extinction will start its innings from two cities – Delhi and Bengaluru. In the next phase, it will go on sale in other metropolitans such as Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai. All-in-all, we stand by our title – if this really is the Extinction we’ll get to see, we’re excited!
