Saar: It is the second set of updates that the Hyundai siblings have received in three months.

Hyundai Motor India has updated the feature-list of the Grand i10 and the Xcent models. This is the second such update for both the siblings in three months. While the Grand i10’s safety kit was updated in October, the Xcent’s feature- and variant-list was rejigged towards in August. With the latest update, the siblings get more features at no extra cost. In other words, Hyundai hasn’t hiked the prices of either of the models to compensate for the added gadgetry.

Let’s start with the hatchback first. Except for the Era, all other trims of the Hyundai Grand i10 now come with iblue audio remote application support. If it is the Sportz trim you were after, you will now get LED DRLs and a rear spoiler as part of the kit. Both those features were earlier reserved for the range-topping Asta trim. Lastly, the Magna trim of the Grand i10 now gets waistline moulding and roof rails as standard. The rest of the kit all the trims remains identical as before.

Over the Xcent. The sub-4 metre sedan’s updates are less in number but make a bigger impact on the segment. In the SX and SX (O) trims of the car, you will now get wireless mobile phone charging, a segment-first feature. On the other hand, Hyundai has taken away the waistline moulding from all trims of the Xcent. As for the rest of the kit, it remains unchanged.

It is pretty clear what Hyundai wants from its Grand i10 and the Xcent models before they go out of production to make way for their new iterations, a process which will start next year. You have to agree that while the Grand i10’s package is now more than just attractive, the Xcent has brought in a feature which isn’t available on any car below the Rs 10 lakh mark.

The updates should help the Hyundai duo to tackle the rivals in a more competent manner. The Hyundai Grand i10 falls in the same segment as the Ford Figo and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The Xcent, on the other hand, faces competition from the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire, Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor and the Volkswagen Ameo.
