Did you know that ever since Ford launched the EcoSport facelift in India, it sold the same car without a boot-mounted spare in several other markets? Now, that international iteration is up for grabs in India too. Ford calls it the EcoSport SE and is offering it in both petrol and diesel guises. It costs Rs 10.49 lakh in the former form, whereas it wears a price tag of Rs 10.99 lakh in the latter.

Compared to the EcoSport Titanium , the SE variants cost Rs 70,000 (petrol) and Rs 99,000 (diesel) more. However, the newly introduced derivatives cost Rs 50,000 less than the S-marked EcoSport iterations.

The most notable highlight in the EcoSport SE is the absence of a spare wheel. Not just on the boot, it isn’t available anywhere. That means it gets a different tailgate, with the number plate area in the centre and a redesigned rear bumper, which boasts a sporty silver applique. So, you might wonder, what happens in case of a puncture? For that, Ford is offering a tyre puncture repair kit with the EcoSport SE. As per the company, it’ll help repair tyre damage in minutes without removing the tyre.

The list of features on the EcoSport SE is almost identical to the EcoSport S. That means even though it is missing a spare wheel, the EcoSport SE packs more creature comforts than the EcoSport Titanium. Some of them are Ford MyKey, cruise control, side and curtain airbags, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming IRVM, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SYNC3, 60:40 split rear seat and tyre pressure monitoring system.

As you’d expect, the EcoSport SE comes with the same engine options. The 1.5-litre petrol engine offers 121bhp/149Nm, whereas the 1.5-litre diesel generates 99bhp/215Nm. The only transmission on offer is the 5-speed manual. The 6-speed automatic remains reserved for the Titanium+ trim only.

In India, the Ford EcoSport rivals a long list of subcompact SUVs. It covers the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV300, Honda WR-V and the Toyota Urban Cruiser.
