It was a week or so ago when Tata Motors revealed almost everything about the Altroz iTurbo. Now, the homegrown automaker has revealed the prices of the newly-added, turbo-petrol variants. There are three of them – XT, XZ and XZ+. Their prices are Rs 7.735 lakh, Rs 8.455 lakh and Rs 8.855 lakh, respectively. In case you’re wondering, other engine options are also available in the new trim level. With the naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine under the bonnet, the Altroz XZ+ costs Rs 8.255 lakh, whereas with the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel the hatchback wears a price tag of Rs 9.455 lakh.

The new engine first. It is a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol motor from the Nexon where it produces 118bhp/170Nm. But, in the Altroz, Tata Motors has pegged its output at 108bhp/140Nm. On the one hand, that’s 10bhp/30Nm less than what Nexon has. On the other hand, the new powerplant offers 23bhp/27Nm more than the naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Like with the other motors, the turbocharged petrol mill also comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. As for the mileage, the new powertrain can deliver up to 18.13kmpl.

With the numbers game out of the picture, let’s divert the focus on the new trim level – XZ+. It offers a bit more to play with, such as iRA (intelligent Real-time Assistant) with 27 connected-car features, Xpress Cool function, leatherette seat covers, an 8-speaker JBL sound system and one-shot up power windows. The connected-car tech is bundled into five categories – Remote Commands, Vehicle Security, Location-Based Services, Gamification and Live Vehicle Diagnosis. Falling under these sections are features like remote lock/unlock, geo-fencing, location sharing, remote immobilization, time-fencing and intrusion alert. Choose any of the iTurbo variants, and the multi-drive modes will include City and Sport.

Tata Motors has also replaced the silver colour option with a new shade – Harbour Blue. And yes, the choice of factory-fitted custom packs remains. With the Altroz iTurbo, Tata has changed a two-horse race into a triple-threat match. Would you pick the Altroz turbo-petrol over the Volkswagen Polo TSI and the Hyundai i20 Turbo GDI?
