If you don’t know what BluSmart is, just hold on for a moment. First, join me in wishing the company – BluSmart Mobility – a very Happy Birthday. It has turned one. Okay. What is it? Introduced in June last year, BluSmart claimed the title of India’s first all-electric ride-hailing platform. If you don’t know what that means, the company only uses pure electric vehicles (EVs) in its taxi service. Presently, the company offers services in Delhi/NCR only.

That’s a small territory, compared to the country’s size, correct? Yes, but no other comparable operator in India can claim the following numbers. In the one year, BluSmart cabs completed 4.75 million kilometres without producing any local pollution. That number comprises of 175,000 trips shared amongst the entire fleet. Since its launch, the company has contributed to saving 325 tonnes of CO2 emissions. As per the Ministry of Power, an EV produces up to 65grms less CO2 every kilometre when compared to conventionally-powered vehicles.

Impressive isn’t it! What’s more, BluSmart Mobility will incorporate all the necessary sanitation practices to keep the driver, as well as the passengers, safe in these troubled times. With cars such as the Mahindra eVerito in the fleet, one can book a ride between 45 minutes and 48 hours in advance. Like other players, BluSmart has a mobile app that makes things convenient.

EVs have their pluses. To name a few, they produce no local emissions, offer a much quieter ride and, if you want to buy one, the state and central governments provide incentives. India has also seen the introductions of some more powerful EVs in the past one year. It started with the Hyundai Kona Electric, followed by the MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV. BluSmart will expand its services to other cities which can support an all-EV fleet. And, don’t rule out the inclusions of those (maybe one if not all) powerful EVs as well.
