Saar: The German carmaker premiered the Concept Z4 at the same location last year.

Ladies and gentlemen, the all-new BMW Z4 has made its world premiere at the 2018 Monterey Car Week. And before we get on to the specifics of the specimen unveiled, let’s just take a moment or two to drool over the topless two-seater. The variant that has been revealed at Pebble Beach is the M40i First Edition. It is a special iteration of the roadster and not all will look like this.

So, what do we have here? As mentioned above, it is a special edition of the two-seater drop-top that BMW has unveiled. Underneath that long bonnet lives a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that pumps out 340PS of power. That’s enough for the roadster to hit 100kmph from nought in 4.6 seconds. The car, which has 50:50 weight distribution, also features electronically controlled dampers, M Sport braking system and electronically controlled M Sport differential in the rear axle transmission.

In terms of design, the production-ready BMW Z4 tries to keep most of the traits from its concept form. BMW’s iconic kidney grille design is flanked by two sweptback headlamp enclosures which feature vertically aligned lamp bezels. The low-slung bonnet is accompanied by flared wheel arches, which incorporate large air inlets. At the back, there is a spoiler integrated into the rear lid which complements the sleek wraparound taillamps.

BMW has added some exclusive accents to the Z4 First Edition to ensure it justifies the “special” tag. The exterior paintwork is called Frozen Orange metallic and it is combined with an electrically operated fabric soft top in anthracite with silver effect. The black ORVM caps and the two-tone 19-inch alloy wheels further enhance the sporty character of the drop-top two-seater. The cabin is draped in Vernasca black leather with decorative stitching. Other features include electrically adjustable seats with memory function, and on the options list are ambient lighting and the Harman Kardon Surround Sound system. The new Z4 is also the first BMW roadster to have a head-up display.

The company has ensured that the production-spec Z4 made its world premiere at the same location where the Concept Z4 shed its cover last year. BMW will announce all details of other Z4 variants on September 19, 2018, and the car will make its trade fair premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
