If a production vehicle wears an ‘AMG’ tag, chances are it will be fast, expensive and outlandish in design. Not many out there come close to what Mercedes-Benz India has introduced today – the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC 4-Door Coupé. Sporting an eye-watering price tag of Rs 2.42 crore, it becomes the most powerful AMG model ever to go on sale in India.

Under the bonnet is Mercedes’ most powerful engine that’s currently in production. The GT 63 S 4-Door Coupé houses a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 630bhp/900Nm. A 9-speed automatic transmission harnesses all that oomph and feeds it to an all-wheel-drive system. As per the company, the configuration is enough for a 0-100kmph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 315kmph. Some might get disappointed with those figures. However, that quickly changes to astounded when they rope in the fact that the car weighs over 2.1 tonnes unladen.

A big engine mated to a slick transmission and an intelligent all-wheel-drive system is only part of the package. It’s the supporting set of gizmos which play a vital role for the driver to tame all that power. That list includes rear-wheel steering, multiple transmission modes, active aerodynamics, sports suspension with adjustable damper system and an electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle.

Put all those together, and the end product ought to be weighty. And then you arrive at the list of creature comforts. It includes dual 12.3-inch displays (one acts as the instrument cluster and the other as a touchscreen infotainment screen), 360-degree camera, cruise control with variable speed limiter, auto headlamps and wipers, 64-colour ambient lighting, electrically- adjustable front seats and OVRMs with memory function, three-zone climate control and auto-dimming IRVM. And before you wonder, there are bucket-loads of safety and assistance systems on offer as well.

So, there you have it – a perfect car for those who like to go fast and terrify more than one passenger in the process. Would you buy one of these? If not, then what will be your choice?
