Saar: With 725PS/900Nm on tap, it does 0-100kmph in 3.4 seconds and clocks 340kmph as its top speed.

Okay. So, the car was unveiled last week and we weren’t paying attention. But we’ve now risen back to our senses and here it is. Meet the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. And it brings back two nameplates to life from the history books. The DBS tag was last associated with the DB9 and has been defining Aston Martins since 1967. The other is the Superleggera badge, which appeared on models such as the DB4, 5 and 6 Mark 1. Aston Martin defines the DBS Superleggera as a “Super GT”. GT: Grand Tourer.

It is a rule of thumb that you unfold every sportscar with what’s powering it. It is, isn’t it? Well, we believe so and that’s how we’ll proceed. The four-seater, two-door GT from Aston Martin is powered by a 5.2-litre, twin-turbo, V12 engine that puts out 725PS of power and 900Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a rear-mounted 8-speed automatic unit which routes the oomph to the rear wheels only. The setup is enough for the 1.7-tonne (approximately) car to hit 100kmph from a standstill in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 340kmph.

The power plant is backed by some pretty sophisticated bit of kit. There’s adaptive damping system with three different modes – GT, Sport and Sport Plus. The GT-mode will make the suspension soft and comfortable for long hauls, while the other two will bring the sporty character of the car a noticeable bump. The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera gets some of the largest ceramic disc brakes ever fitted to a production car on all four wheels. To keep things under control, the grand tourer also comes as standard with dynamic stability control, traction control, dynamic torque vectoring, hydraulic brake assist and ABS with EBD.

On the features front, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera comes as standard with keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring system, heated seats with memory function, automatic climate control and a 360-degree camera. If that lot is a bit poor for your liking, you also get an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is mated to an Aston Martin premium sound system and has integrated satellite navigation system, 21-inch alloy wheels, leather steering wheel and an upholstery finished in Caithness leather and Alcantara.

The company has revealed prices for three markets as of now – UK (approx Rs 2.03 crore), USA (approx Rs 2.09 crore) and Germany (approx Rs 2.2 crore). Deliveries of the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of this year. Eventually, it will be introduced in India too, with the prices well north of Rs 4 crore.
