Saar: Slated to enter production later this year, it will make its first public appearance at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

Only a couple of days ago, Mercedes-Benz revealed that the all-new A-Class sedan is world record holder in one very specific technical area – the coefficient of drag. Now though, the Stuttgart-based automaker has revealed the finished product altogether. Say hello to the new A-Class sedan which, as expected, is essentially a trimmed-down derivative of the A-Class L sedan, which only the Chinese will get.

In terms of dimensions, the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan measures 4,549mm in length, 1,796mm in width and 1,446mm in height. Compared to the A-Class hatch, the sedan is 130mm longer and 6mm taller. The width and the wheelbase, which measures 2,729mm, are the same. The extra length does help the notchback to carve out 420 litres of boot space which is at least 50 litres more than the hatchback. The sedan will be offered with different sizes of alloy wheels, ranging from 16- to 19-inches in diameter.

At the time of launch, the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will be available with two monikers at the back – A 180 d and A 200. While the former will come with a 1.5-litre, turbo-diesel engine, producing 116PS/260Nm, the latter will house a 1.3-litre, turbo-petrol mill, generating 163PS/250Nm. A 7-speed automatic transmission, which will route power to the front wheels, will be offered as standard with both the engines. At a later stage, Mercedes-Benz will add some AMG magic to the A-Class sedan and introduce 4MATIC variants with A35 and A45 badges at the rear.

Inside the cabin, the A-Class sedan will have a lot of kit as standard. The list includes the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system with touchscreen and driving assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist. As far as the dual-screen layout is concerned, it will be available in three versions – two 7-inch displays; one 7-inch and one 10.25-inch displays, and two 10.25-inch displays. Customers will also be offered Keyless-Go convenience package with Hands-Free Access, an ambient lighting system with 64 colours to choose from and Mercedes’ Pre-Safe Plus. There is also a semi-autonomous driving mode on-board which uses camera and radar systems to see up to 500 metres ahead.

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan is slated to enter production later this year in Aguascalientes, Mexico. In early 2019, Mercedes’ Rastatt plant in Germany will also start manufacturing the A-Class sedan. The company said that the A-Class sedan will make its first public appearance at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, which will open its gates on October 4.
