Jeep India has launched the all-new Wrangler at a price of Rs 63.94 lakh (ex-showroom). For us, the SUV is up for grabs in only one trim – Sahara – and in the five-door guise only. As was the case with the previous-gen Wrangler, the new one also comes to India via the CBU route. The model is manufactured at Jeep’s Toledo factory in the USA.

To get things started and to keep the price tag as low as possible, Jeep India has introduced the new Wrangler with just one engine-transmission combination. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine which puts out 268hp/400Nm and it is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Obviously, the SUV has a low-range gearbox which helps transfer the available oomph from two wheels to all four wheels. The model is currently BSIV-compliant but it will be updated before April 1, 2020, to meet BSVI standards of emission norms.

Over to the list of features. As you’d expect, it is quite extensive. Everything from LED-powered headlamps and DRLs, a 7.0-inch MID and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, to dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, multiple USB and 12-volt power outlets and push-button start-stop, are part of the kit. The standard safety kit, on the other hand, includes ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, electronic stability control (ESC) and electronic roll-over mitigation.

So, there you have it. The new Jeep Wrangler is here and it has no direct competitor in India. In the same sort of price range, however, there are a number of other, softer SUVs available. That list includes the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X3, Audi Q5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC.
