Always liked the fully-loaded, petrol-powered Honda City but wished it came with a manual transmission? Good news! Honda Cars India has answered your prayers. The company has introduced a new petrol variant in the City’s line-up. Dubbed simply as the ZX MT, it is priced at Rs 12.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company has also taken the opportunity to replace two colours – Carnelian Red Pearl and Alabaster Silver – with – Radiant Red Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic.

Predictably, there are no mechanical changes to report apart from the obvious one. The 1.5-litre petrol engine puts out 119PS of power and 145Nm of torque. With the CVT it returns a mileage of 18kmpl and with the 5-speed manual transmission, it returns 17.4kmpl.

Here’s what Rajesh Goel, who is the senior vice president and director of sales and marketing at Honda Cars India Ltd., said in an official release:

“We are delighted to introduce the new ZX variant of Honda City in petrol with manual transmission to complete the top spec ZX range and offer increased choice for our customers.  The addition of new colours and standard application of Rear Parking sensors will further strengthen the City offering in the market.”

As far as the list of features goes, it is quite extensive. On the outside, the Honda City in the ZX trim gets 6 airbags, LED-powered taillamps, headlamps and fog lamps, a trunk lid spoiler with integrated LED brake light, leather trim for seats, armrests and door inserts and auto headlamps and wipers. What’s more, Honda has made rear parking sensors standard across all variants. Speaking of which, the S trim has been ditched and now the sedan is available in just four trims – SV, V, VX and ZX.

The Honda City, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in January last year, competes with a range of sedans in India. The list includes the Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
