By now, you probably know that McLaren is gunning to start selling cars in India. If you visit the brand’s global website, one could configure a model after selecting India as the region. If we take that as a point of reference, McLaren plans to sell four models on our shores – GT, 720S Coupe, 720S Spider and the Artura. Prices for the first three have surfaced.

McLaren GT

At Rs 3.73 crore, it is the least expensive McLaren on sale. It is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 612bhp/630Nm, while a 7-speed automatic handles transmission duties. McLaren says that the GT can complete the 0-100kmph and 0-200kmph sprints in 3.2 seconds and 9 seconds, respectively. Flat out, it can hit 326kmph. Some of the features the car comes with include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, multiple drive modes, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive dampers and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

McLaren 720S

For the Coupe, the ex-showroom price is Rs 4.645 crore. Those who want it in Spider form will have to spend an extra Rs 39 lakh. If math isn’t your cup of tea, the 720S Spider has a starting price of Rs 5.035 crore. Propulsion for both comes from the same powertrain as the McLaren GT. That’s a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The 720S, however, offers more oomph. With 710bhp/770Nm on tap, the Coupe and the Spider can hit 100kmph from nothing in 2.9 seconds and reach 341kmph at full stretch.

The standard list of features includes Variable Drift Control, adaptive dampers, dual-zone climate control, LED headlamps with auto-levelling functionality, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Of course, Spider’s main party piece is the retractable hardtop. In just 11 seconds, and at speeds of up to 50kmph, the roof tucks itself away.

McLaren Artura

The Artura is the latest addition to McLaren’s global portfolio, but it hasn’t got a price tag for India just yet. The car has a hybrid powertrain, combining a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with an electric motor. The total system out is 671bhp/720, all of which is harnessed by an 8-speed automatic transmission. From a standstill, the Artura can hit 100kmph in 3 seconds, 200kmph in 8.3 seconds and 300kmph in 21.5 seconds. The top speed is 330kmph. Yes, you can drive it on electric power alone. In that mode, the car has about 94bhp and a top speed of 130kmph.

McLaren Automotive has partnered with Infinity Cars Pvt. Ltd. to set up showrooms and sell cars in India. Like other exotic carmakers, expect McLaren to keep the dealership count to a minimum, focused on metropolitans.
