After an agonisingly long wait, Audi India has finally introduced the all-new A6 sedan. It arrives on our shores in two trim levels, both with the same powertrain – 45 TFSI S Tronic. If you go for the Premium Plus derivative, you’d have to dish out Rs 54.20 lakh. For the more-loaded Technology trim, the sticker price is Rs 59.20 lakh. The new A6 also becomes Audi’s first BS6-compliant models in India. In case you are wondering why there is no diesel-powered A6, Audi India has changed tactics and will focus only on petrol, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles.

So, what does 45 TFSI S Tronic mean? It means that under the hood is a 2.0-litre petrol engine which is boosted by a turbocharger. The result is 241bhp/370Nm, all of which goes to the front wheels via a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission. Sadly, Audi’s all-wheel-drive quattro system isn’t on offer. As per the German carmaker, the A6 can hit 100kmph from nothing in 6.8 seconds, and top out at 250kmph. Those figures aren’t bad for something that is nearly five metres in length, two metres in width and weighs over 1.6 tonnes unladen.

With the numbers game over, let’s quickly move over to the kit. The standard list of features in the Premium Plus trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, panoramic glass sunroof, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, Audi music system and Lane Departure Warning system. The more expensive Technology gets gizmos such as four-zone climate control, Audi Virtual Cockpit (digital instrument cluster), ambient lighting, electrically-adjustable steering wheel, wireless mobile charging and a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium sound system.

Competition? The new Audi A6 renews the rivalry with the Jaguar XF (Rs 49.78 – 61.39 lakh), Mercedes-Benz E-Class (Rs 58.80 – 73.58 lakh), Volvo S90 (Rs 51.90 – 58.90 lakh) and the BMW 5 Series (Rs 59.30 – 66.80 lakh). Audi India’s latest offering is the only one in its segment without a diesel engine option. Volvo’s S90, on the other hand, is the exact opposite.

Note: All prices given above are ex-showroom India.
