It was in June last year when BMW took the wraps off the fourth-generation X5 SUV. Well, after a wait of nearly a year, the company has launched it in India. The X5 arrives in India in three derivatives – xDrive30d Sport, xDrive30d xLine and xDrive40i M Sport. While the first of the three carries a price tag of Rs 72.90 lakh, the latter two are priced at Rs 82.40 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom India).

As you might have noticed, the new BMW X5 is being offered with two engine options – one petrol and diesel each. The petrol, which carries the 40i marking, is a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, turbocharged motor and it is good for 340PS/450Nm. The diesel, on the other hand, is also a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, turbocharged unit and produces 265PS/620Nm. Both engines come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system. While the petrol engine can help sprint the SUV to 100kmph from a standstill in 5.5 seconds and reach 243kmph flat out, the diesel can manage the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.5 seconds and a top out at 230kmph.

Over to the list of features. No matter which variant or trim of the all-new BMW X5 you opt for, it will come with gizmos like multiple driving modes, cruise control with braking function, LED-powered headlamps, taillamps and fog lamps, auto headlamps and wipers, powered tailgate with automatic operation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. If you put the money on the xLine or M Sport, both of which differ in styling, the added list of features will include a 16-speaker, 464-watt, Harman Kardon sound system, 360-degree surround view, paddle-shifters behind the steering wheel, launch control function and adaptive 2-axle air suspension.

The all-new BMW X5 is a formidable contender in a market where you also have the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7, Range Rover Velar and the Mercedes-Benz GLE. Let us know how you like the new X5 and if you had the money, which one out of the lot will be your choice.
