Saar: The model that introduced the fifth digit in production figures was the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pickup.

The Indian arm of the Japanese automaker Isuzu finally has something to be proud of. And we sure are proud of them. Isuzu Motors India Pvt. Ltd. (IMIPL) has announced that it has produced 10,000 vehicles from its own plant in SriCity, which is in Andhra Pradesh. The model that introduced the fifth digit in production figures was the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, which the company likes to describe as India’s first adventure utility vehicle. In American terminology, it is a pickup truck and we absolutely love it.

Isuzu Motor India’s plant in SriCity went operational in April 2016. That means it took the automaker, who is renowned the world over for its diesel engines, took over two years to achieve this production feat. That is not bad for a company that sells just four models in India – D-Max V-Cross, MU-X, D-Max S-CAB and Regular Cab. The latter two are for the commercial segment, while the other remaining two are on sale to cater to the personal vehicle segment.

Speaking on this achievement, Naohiro Yamaguchi, MD, IMIPL said:

“The roll-out of the 10,000th vehicle from SriCity marks an important milestone in the journey of Isuzu in India. It is a testimony to show our commitment to India and the trust Indian customers have built on us and our products. It is just the beginning and we will continue to remain focused on our core objectives of delivering value and quality through our products.”

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Facelift

It is worth noting that before producing its models in SriCity, IMIPL was manufacturing its vehicles at Hindustan Motors facility near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, till early 2016. Thanks to that early stint, the company crossed the cumulative sales of 10,000 units in March this year. Ironically, the first vehicle that was produced in SriCity was also the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The same facility also exports units to neighbouring countries of Nepal and Bhutan.

To keep things refreshed, IMIPL is expected to launch the mid-life update of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross in India within this year. And we will be keeping a tab on how that development phases in.
