How can two models, which received their BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) recipes in March this year, already get special editions? Well, let’s put it this way – Volkswagen really likes to doodle with the Polo and Vento. After tweaking their variant lists last month, the carmaker has now introduced TSI Editions for both models in question. The special editions of the Polo and Vento cost Rs 7.89 lakh and Rs 10.99 lakh, respectively.

To create TSI Editions, Volkswagen took the range-topping manual variants of the models and gave them some sporty credentials. That includes body graphics, a “TSI Power” sticker, honeycomb grille, glossy black roof and blacked-out ORVM (Outside Rear-View Mirror) caps. The rest of the package remains unaltered. Even with the added lunacy, the Polo TSI Edition costs about Rs 13,000 less than the Polo Highline Plus manual. If you think that’s good, the Vento TSI Edition costs a whopping Rs 1 lakh less than the Vento Highline Plus manual.

As for the powerplant, both cars get the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol TSI engine which produces 108bhp/175Nm, while a 6-speed manual handles transmission duties. Volkswagen claims that the Polo can return up to 18.24kmpl, whereas the Vento can go as high as 17.69kmpl. You have to agree; those mileage figures aren’t bad at all!

In the features department, both TSI Editions pack stuff like cruise control, automatic climate control, 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically-adjustable and foldable ORVMs, opening and closing of windows with key remote, front armrest with rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cornering lights and rain-sensing wipers.

The idea behind releasing special editions of these cars is simple – they should help push the sales numbers in the upward direction. If you like either of then, they are available to book online. In India, the Polo locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. The Vento, on the other hand, rivals the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and the Skoda Rapid.
