After launching the all-electric version of the KUV100 NXT earlier this year, Mahindra has now introduced the car’s conventionally-powered, BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) range. As expected, the hatchback has lost diesel power for good. The petrol-only KUV100 NXT starts at Rs 5.54 lakh and goes up to Rs 7.16 lakh. Mahindra has also shortened the trim levels down to four. Here’s the complete price list:
There’s only one engine-transmission combination available. It comprises of a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 82bhp/115Nm, and a 5-speed manual transmission. Except for the entry-level variant, which comes only with a six-seater configuration, the rest of the range gets the choice of a five-seat layout as well. Other notable dimension figures include 170mm of ground clearance and 243 litres of boot space, which can go up to 473 litres with the rear seats folded.
In the features department, the KUV100 NXT has a lot to offer. As standard, the car comes with gizmos such as an armrest in the front row, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, headlight levelling, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, dual airbags and seatbelt reminder for front occupants. The fully-loaded variant comes with features like ISOFIX anchorages, rear wiper, washer and defogger, front fog lamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation, a 6-speaker sound system, LED DRLs, powered ORVMs, cooled glovebox and two 12-volt power outlets.
The KUV100 NXT might not have cracked Mahindra’s list of top performers, and yet it lives on. It aims to entice people with its high-riding position and space for up to six people in a compact package. In India, it competes directly with the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Ford Freestyle. That said, other hatchbacks, such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios fall in the same sort of price range. And if it is space you are after, why not consider the Renault Triber?
